The story
Ananda Bhavan claims the title of Singapore's oldest Indian vegetarian restaurant — founded in 1924, three years before the Singapore Sporting Club moved its racecourse off Race Course Road. The original Tamil migrants who set it up were among the wave of South Indian labour brought to Singapore in the 1920s. It's now a small chain with branches across Little India, Selegie, Syed Alwi, and the airport.
